No. 14 Colorado College volleyball team split games during the first day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Central/West Crossover, Saturday afternoon in Mallory-Hyde Gymnasium.
In the first day's game, Colorado College fell to No. 9 Southwestern University, 3-0. The sets remained close, but the Tigers were unable to overcome the Pirates, falling 28-26, 35-33, 25-21.
Senior
Sarah Schmoker led CC with 11 kills against Southwestern, while senior
Amy Schornack ran the offense with 38 assists.
Senior
Hannah Varnell led the defense with 26 digs. Senior
Haley Hamilton led the Tigers at the net with three blocks and added a team-high three service aces.
CC came back in the final game of the day, beating Austin College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21).
Junior
Kate Squires led the Tiger offense with 10 kills against the Kangaroos. Junior
Laura Goldsmith added nine kills and a team-high two service aces.
Schornack dished out a team-high 36 assists and dug up a team-high 16 digs on defense.
Varnell added 13 digs in the back row for CC, while Hamilton added a team-high four blocks at the net.
The Tigers are now 15-5 on the season and 5-1 in SCAC action. Southwestern improved to 14-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. Austin fell to 12-7 this season and 3-2 in conference action.
CC will continue conference play in Memphis, Tenn. against the University of Dallas at 9 a.m. and Trinity University at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
