Celts edged 1-0 in season-opener at TLU

SEGUIN, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas were unable to start the 2019 season on a winning note Friday as they fell 1-0 at Texas Lutheran.

A penalty kick awarded to TLU in the 63rd minute of the contest proved to be the match's only tally as the Celts will have to wait a couple more days to pick up their first win as an NCAA Division III program.

Jordan Thompson (pictured) made three saves in goal for the Celts (0-1), while her TLU counterpart Krystal Pulaski made six saves for the Bulldogs (1-0).

The Celts came close to tying the match late in the second half, but Narcedalia Yanez' shot in the 89th minute was turned away by Pulaski. Kennedy Sessions and Katarina Maksimov also gave the Celts a chance to tie late the contest, but their shots went wide of the goal.

UST returns to action Sunday when they visit Southwestern (Texas). Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
