Men's Hoops Falls to Ozarks in Home Opener

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team struggled to get anything going offensively early and was never able to recover, falling 66-56 to the visiting University of the Ozarks on Tuesday night in the home opener for the 'Roos. Austin College is now 0-2 on the year.

Austin College went without a made field goal in the game's first seven minutes and had four turnovers in that same stretch, but the 'Roos were able to keep it close at 7-5 early following a made bucket from Tristan Dick at the 13 minute mark. The Eagles scored six in a row to push it to a 13-5 game, and after the 'Roos cut it to 15-9 on a basket by Nate Williams with 10:37 on the clock, Ozarks scored the next six points while Austin College went scoreless over the game's next five minutes, making it 21-9 with under six minutes left before halftime. The Eagles took a 27-16 lead with 2:23 left, but Austin College managed to get the deficit back into single digits at halftime, trailing 31-22 heading into the locker room.

Dick scored early in the second half to make it 31-24, but Ozarks quickly pushed the margin back to double figures at 38-26 before the 'Roos started battling back, with Jackson Rennie's three pointer making it 40-33 with 14:48 left to play. Ozarks used a 9-1 run to go on top 49-34 with just over 10 minutes remaining, and the lead would grow to 56-38 on a triple by Josh Ukpe with seven minutes on the clock. The Eagles maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the way, with Austin College getting a three from Rennie with six seconds left for the final points of the game to make it a 66-56 final.

Austin College finished the game shooting just 27.4% from the field, compared to 45.3% for the Eagles. Price Bradley scored a game-high 15 points to lead the 'Roos, adding seven rebounds and four assists in the loss. Rennie was the lone other 'Roo to hit double figures in the scoring column, finishing with 11 points while making 3-of-11 three pointers. Jason Jones Jr. grabbed 12 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive boards, and Dick finished with seven points, seven steals, and five rebounds. Tylan Jackson led Ozarks with 13 points and Ukpe had 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
