KERRVILLE, Texas — Southwestern women's basketball failed to collect a crucial defensive rebound, preventing the Pirates from a final shot opportunity in a 67-64 loss to the Schreiner Mountaineers.

Three Pirates scored double figures, led by Jada Hollie's 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting. The freshman forward also collected six rebounds and dished out two assists off the bench.

Both teams opened the game sluggishly, shooting a combined 6-for-37 in the first quarter that ended tied at 10. Schreiner's Aazayleah Pirtle hit a pair of 3-pointers in a 19-14 second quarter to give the Mountaineers a 29-24 lead at the half.

Southwestern shot efficiently from the field in the third quarter, hitting 8-of-14 shots (57.1 percent), but was only able to trim one point off Schreiner's lead due to seven turnovers.

Lauren Fulenwider, Hollie, and Reece Sandercock were spectacular in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 of Southwestern's 23 points on a combined 9-for-12 shooting. Fulenwider led Southwestern's comeback attempt with eight points on five shots in the quarter, while Sandercock hit all three of her shot attempts to score six in seven fourth-quarter minutes. Hollie scored seven points on four shots, including a layup to bring Southwestern within two at 66-64 with 13 seconds remaining.

Schreiner's Joslin Hernandez missed both ensuing free-throw attempts, but Nariyah Buggs secured the offensive rebound and nailed one of two attempts, while the Pirates failed to get a shot off to end the game.

Fulenwider finished with 13 points on 5-for-14 shooting. Sandercock added 10 points on six shots while contributing six rebounds and three blocks off the bench. Four Schreiner players scored in double figures, led by Miranda Vallejo's 12 points.

With the loss, Southwestern falls to 5-6, including a 1-2 conference record. The Pirates will hit the road next week to play Centenary on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
