
GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Softball (0-0) made the short trip up to Belton, Texas on Friday night to take on the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders (0-1) in a doubleheader for the Pirates season opener. Southwestern fell 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning in their first game against the Crusaders. The Crusaders then rattled off four runs in the bottom of the fifth and another run in the bottom of the six to cap the game off at six innings and a 9-1 win for UMHB. The Pirates faired much better in the second game of the doubleheader, taking a 2-1 lead by the top of the second, however, the Crusaders managed runs in the fourth and fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead and eventually the win.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centerfielder Erica Otto scored the lone run of the first game while adding one hit for a double.
- Samantha Saenz recorded a hit and a walk in the first game.
- Freshman pitcher Jaden Wheeler notched a hit and an RBI in game one.
- Freshman catcher Victoria Jackson-Sears cranked out a home run in game two leading to two RBIs.
- Jodi Glenn-Millhouse and Riley Glenn-Millhouse both recorded hits in game two.
NOTES
- The Pirates left seven runners on base in game one with one runner left on base in game two.
- Five different Pirates recorded hits in game one compared to three in game two.
- Pitcher Madison Vela allowed two earned runs in game two with two strikeouts and one walk.
