Bulldogs Dominate Schreiner 4-0

SEGUIN,TX -- The Texas Lutheran Men's Soccer team (5-4-1, 1-2) earned another shutout win at Gustafson Field Sunday evening, defeating Schreiner (2-11-1, 1-3-0) 4-0.

The Bulldogs found the back of the net four times with freshman midfielder Louis Hart (Missouri City/Ridge Point) opening the scoring early with a goal in the 2nd minute via an assist from Jared Esparza (Cibolo/Steele). Moments later, senior Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) netted his 7th goal of the season to extend the Bulldogs lead to 2-0. With this goal, Green moved into a tie with Ariel Larre (1993-1996) for 2nd all-time in goals scored in TLU Men's Soccer history with 56 career goals. For the Bulldogs third goal in quick succession, Jorge Ugaz pushed his 3rd goal of the season across via an assist from Green as the Bulldogs began to pull away.

This is where the score would stay as the two teams entered halftime as the Bulldogs outshot the Mountaineers 10-2 in the opening half. Joao Maia (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/American School of Brasilia) would put the finishing touches on the match in the 72nd minute with his second goal of his career, season and of the weekend as the Bulldogs maintained their 4-0 advantage the final 18 minutes.

In all, the Bulldogs recorded 18 shots, including 8 on goal. The Mountaineers were limited to four total shots.

With the win, the Bulldogs recorded their 4th shutout of the season and pushed their record over .500.

Sophomore goalkeeper Noel Pena (Houston/Cy-Falls) made two saves on his way to his fourth clean sheet of the season. With today's performance, Pena moves into first place in the SCAC in goals-against average with a 0.21 average and goals against allowing only one goal so far this season.
