Celts Edged By Mountaineers in SCAC Opener

Celts Edged By Mountaineers in SCAC Opener

Baseball opened up conference play this Friday night against the Schreiner Mountaineers. Despite 10 hits across the game, the Celts left seven runners stranded to fall 3-2.

Throughout the first three innings, it was a struggle for both teams to generate a run. However, it was St. Thomas who got on the scoreboard first as Dillon Mckee hit an RBI triple to score Jeffrey Williams. McKee then came home off a wild pitch to put St. Thomas up 2-0. From there, Schreiner finally responded in the top of sixth as a two RBI single tied the game up 2-2. With the score knotted up at two apiece, it was Schreiner who broke the tie in the top of the eighth as a quick RBI single made the score 3-2. St. Thomas had chances to score in the home frame of the eighth and ninth with three runners stranded, however, were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

Up next, the Celts look for their first conference victory against Schreiner tomorrow at 1 and 4 PM. Come out to Reckling Park for a doubleheader to support your Celts!.
