Bulldogs Storm Back in Second Half to Take Down Austin on Senior Day

SEGUIN, TX -- With conference positioning on the line, Texas Lutheran men's soccer picked up a much needed victory Sunday afternoon over Austin College (2-12, 0-6 SCAC) at Gustafson Field. A strike from Luis Green (Monterrey, Mexico/Smithson Valley) in the 70th minute proved decisive as the Bulldogs moved to 8-3-1 (4-3 SCAC) on the season.

The Bulldogs dominated throughout the first half - maintaining possession and keeping the ball on their side of the pitch. Jair Ortega (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) got the scoring started in the 9th minute with one of the Bulldogs 7 first half shots. Texas Lutheran would carry the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Austin College would net an equalizer at the 57th mark that would raise the intensity of the match as both teams scrambled to break the tie. Luis Green would be the one to finally break the tie in the 70th minute via an assist from Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford). The goal was Green's 12th of the season and brought him within one of tying the Bulldogs all-time goal record.

Despite the 'Roos best efforts, the 2-1 Bulldogs advantage is where the score would stay as the Bulldogs secured the victory. Caleb Weed (San Antonio/Warren) picked up the win in-goal for the Bulldogs.

After the game, the Bulldogs recognized their three-member senior class: Jared Esparza (Cibolo/Steele), Roberto Guerrero (Jalpa/Brennan), and Nicolas Medina (Houston/St. Pius X).

The Bulldogs will conclude their regular season with a home finale against Southwestern Friday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 PM at Gustafson Field. All streaming and stat links can be found at tlubulldogs.com.
