Mallory’s Goal Lifts CC Over Pirates

Will Mallory struck for the only goal of the game as the Colorado College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over Southwestern University in its first game on the new and improved Stewart Field.

Mallory scored early in the 72nd minute from the center of the box off a cross from Samson Heyer. It was Mallory's second game winner of the season and the fifth of his career.

Keleher Felton made a career-high four saves while posting his second clean sheet of the season.

The sophomore goalkeeper made a spectacular stop on Seth Holzmann's downward header with 17:28 remaining in the game off a cross from the opposite side.

Sam Laude stopped four shots for the Pirates, and also got some help from his defense midway through the first half to keep the game scoreless.

CC's Griffin Meyer launched a shot from the center of the box, but Richard Maybury stuck his leg out and deflected the ball wide of the right post.

Palguta's Perspective
"I thought we showed a lot of grit and toughness today, which frankly has been missing at times this season. We didn't overwhelm Southwestern with our attacking play, but the chances we did create were all very good, clear-cut scoring opportunities."
"It was great to see Will Mallory come through in a clutch moment, and Samson Heyer's assist was a terrific individual effort. Samson and John Schuler were outstanding on both sides of the ball in midfield.
"Our team defending was strong and our backline was tight and in sync the entire game, which are signs of positive progress for our team."

Colorado College Standouts
Griffin Meyer launched six shots for the Tigers.
Rory Eastland-Fruit has two shots.

Southwestern Standouts
Fernando Garduno-Jarmil led the Pirates with six shots.
Richard Maybury had a team-high two shots on goal.

Next for the Tigers
Colorado College plays host to Texas Lutheran University on Sunday at noon.
