Luetjen propels Tigers past Nebraska Wesleyan

Becky Luetjen tied her career high with 29 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Colorado College to a 69-52 victory over previously unbeaten Nebraska Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.

Luetjen poured in 16 points and had four assists during the second half when the Tigers erased an early eight-point deficit by outscoring the Prairie Wolves 48-23 during the final 17:35. Her double-double was the second in as many days and the 12th of her career.

Marissa Gradoz flirted with a triple-double, finishing the game with career highs of 11 rebounds and eight assists to go along with nine points.

Hannah Hoopingarner and Lutejen had five points apiece to fuel a 15-0 run that gave a 53-42 lead with 5:43 remaining in the second half.

After Shea Rasmussen cut the Tigers' lead to nine points with 4:06 to go, Gradoz scored five points to ignite a 10-0 run that gave CC it's largest lead of the game at 67-48.

Nebraska Wesleyan took a 22-10 lead when Rasmussen drained a three-pointer with 7:19 remaining in the first half and still led by 12 points when Mallory Shanahan made a pair of free throws with 4:11 to go.

Luetjen scored six straight points and Jordy Stephenson knocked down a three-pointer with 22 seconds left to cut the Tigers' deficit to 24-21 after 20 minutes.

Rasmussen led the Prairie Wolves with 17 points, while Mallory Shanahan posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Katy Golden had 15 rebounds.

CC made all 17 of its free-throw attempts. Luetjen was 10-for-10, while Gradoz drained six in a row.

The Tigers shot 52-percent from the floor in the second half after making only seven of 29 field goal attempts during the first 20 minutes.

Colorado College opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next Friday at Hendrix College and completes the two-game road-trip at Millsaps College in Sunday.
