Lynx Defeat Warriors

The Rhodes baseball team defeated Hendrix College this afternoon at Stauffer Field 5-4.  Rhodes jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first before Hendrix tied the game 3-3 after 3 innings.  Rhodes then put up 2 in the bottom of the 7th and was able to hold off a late rally by the Warriors to hold onto the 5-4 victory.  Sophomore James Todd collected his second victory of the season as the Lynx improve to 12-12 on the year.

Freshman Jake Long made his third start of the season en route to his 3rd no decision.  Long worked 5 innings, allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks.  Long struck out 1.  Sophomore James Todd entered the game in the top of the 6th and worked the next 2.2 innings.  Todd allowed 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, and struck out 1.  Senior Hunter Chandler relieved Todd with 2 outs in the top of the 8th and would need only 10 pitches to finish off the game and collect his 3rd save of the season.

The Lynx offense was led by senior LF Matt Gilbert who was 3-4 at the plate with a stolen base.  Senior RF Andy Meier was 2-4 with a double, run scored, and stole a base.  Sophomore Matt Burnick was 2-4 with 2 runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.  Senior 1B Brent Lindsey was 2-5 with a double, and an RBI.  Sophomore SS Lynden Pindling was 0-1 with 4 walks.

The Lynx will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Birmingham, AL for a 3 game conference series against Birmingham Southern.  First pitch is set for 1:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
