HISTORY MADE! Baseball Knocks off First Place Trinity on Senior Day

Behind its 15-person senior class, Baseball notched its first-ever win against Trinity University this Sunday afternoon. After nine hard-fought innings, the Celts won game three 5-3 and knocked Trinity off first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

It was a quiet first three innings for St. Thomas as the lone Celt hit belonged to Cameron McClure. With no offense in sight, St. Thomas had to wait for the fourth to kickstart their rally. In that inning, Trinity issued four straight walks, as Myles Simmons brought home Jeffrey Williams to make the score 1-0. After that, Jacob Carriere hit a key sacrifice fly to bring home Aeneas Enriquez as the score now read 2-0.

The St. Thomas lead then extended in the bottom of the sixth as the Celts added three more in the inning. After adding one from Cameron McClure, Jason Brown scored off a passed ball. Then Leo Galvan got involved with a RBI double to deep left center as the score was now 5-0. The Tigers tried to claw their way back into the game with three runs in the seventh, however, the lead was too large for them to come back from. St. Thomas showed clutch after a Trinity leadoff hit in the top of the ninth to ultimately get the 5-3 win.

On the mound, four seniors and Jacob Mead combined for the win. Chris Parsons in his last game as a Celt capped off his career by throwing 6.2 innings and allowing just three runs off seven hits. He also had six strikeouts to get the win. Coming in relief, Kalob Bacak got the Celts out of a jam and pitched the last out of the seventh. Then Cole Grimes and Noah Webb came in to set up closer Jacob Mead. Mead, in a save situation, struck out three batters to get secure the 5-3 victory.

This win concludes the 2022-2023 Baseball season. The Celts capped off the year with a win by taking down Trinity for the first time in program history in just their fourth season in the SCAC. Thank you to our large 15 person senior class for their efforts to build this program. With many of them joining in the first year in 2019-2020, the future is now!
