Softball hosted Texas A&M San Antonio for a midweek doubleheader this Wednesday afternoon. Through a competitive day, the Celts split the series with the Jaguars heading into the weekend. 

Game 1 TAMUSA 11 UST 5

TAMUSA seemingly took control of the opening game from the first pitch, notching two runs in the first inning. The Celts responded with a run of their own to cut the deficit in half, but were unable to match the pace of the Jaguars. Both teams traded runs until the bottom of the seventh, when the Celts were finally able to tie the game to force extra innings, 5-5. In extra innings, the TAMUSA bats broke out for five hits, leading to six runs to blow the game open. At the conclusion of the game, the Jaguars won 11-5 as the Celts could not score in the home half of the eighth.

In game two, it was a lot more in the Celts favor as they were first to strike on the scoreboard. In the home half of the second inning, Rebecca Archibald forced a costly error by the Jaguars' third baseman, and it led to scores by Jaelyn Simmons and Mallarie Munson. The bleeding did not stop there as the Celts added two more runs, powered by a two-RBI single from Lindsey Gonzalez. This made the score 4-0 heading into the third inning. From there, TAMUSA added two runs, to cut the deficit in half, but the Celts added one run of insurance. With the score 5-2, the Jaguars were only able to add one more as the score held to 5-3 in favor of St. Thomas.

Allison Hughes got the start in the circle and went the full seven innings. Hughes allowed just three runs on six hits, but also notched three strikeouts.
