Tigers come from behind to top Oglethorpe

Colorado College erased a 17-point deficit during the second half as the Tigers recovered from an ice-cold opening 20 minutes in time to post a 64-59 victory over Oglethorpe University on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.

Nick Rose ignited the comeback by scoring 17 of his game-high 29 points after the break, but the outcome wasn't decided until Jeremiah Waters and Colin Madden each sank a pair of free throws during the final 15 seconds.

Todd Ward poured in 24 points to lead the Stormy Petrels, who built a 42-25 lead when he made a pair of free throws 1:30 into the second half.

Rose scored seven straight points during a 9-0 streak, including a dunk which brought the crowd back into the game, which cut the Tigers' deficit to eight points with just over 15 minutes remaining.

After Christian Molinet pushed the Stormy Petrels advantage back to 51-39 with 8:32 to play, Colorado College exploded four 12 consecutive points.

The Tigers capped a 26-9 run to tie the game on a three-pointer by Ben Foley with 4:32 to go, and took the lead for the first time since early in the first half when Foley forced a turnover and drove to the basket for two of his eight points.

Brady Ohlsen went 6-for-6 from the floor and made all three of his free throws to finish with 15 points for CC, which maintained its two-game lead in the Western Division of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 7-1 record. The Tigers improved to 11-6 overall.

Alec Pitts had 16 points for the Stormy Petrels, who slipped to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

Colorado College made four of its first five field-goal attempts and led 12-10 after Ohlsen canned two free throws 5:58 into the game. After that, the Tigers went 4-for-23 from the floor and were outscored 28-10 the remainder of the half.

Meanwhile, Oglethorpe made 15 of 29 shots, including four of 11 from three-point range, while building a 16-point advantage after 20 minutes.

Colorado College plays host to Sewanee on Sunday afternoon.
