CC Battles St. Thomas to Scoreless Draw

Box Score Colorado College posted its second straight shutout, but the Tigers were unable to score at the other end and settled for a 0-0 draw on Sunday at the University of St. Thomas in the 2016 Tommie Classic.

Junior goalkeeper Theo Hooker stopped four shots while recording his second clean sheet of the season and the 18th of his career.

"We were disappointed in our lack of quality in the final third of the field, but our defending was solid and we were pleased not to concede a goal this weekend," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We bent, but never broke, and that's the sign of a good team."

Colorado College came within in inches of netting the game winner a little less than four minutes into the first overtime, but a header by senior midfielder Caden MacKenzie clanked off the crossbar.

The Tigers finished with a 10-9 edge in total shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Grant Larson made a pair of saves for the Tommies, including one on sophomore forward Robert Malone's shot in the 93rd minute. The St. Thomas defense helped its senior goalkeeper out by blocking three shots.

The last time CC recorded back-to-back shutouts to begin as season was 1995 when the Tigers opened with 5-0 victories over California Lutheran University and Occidental College.

Colorado College plays its home opener on Friday when Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival University of Dallas visits Stewart Field at 3 p.m.
