Senior
James Settles became the first Colorado College runner to win the school's home cross country meet since 2010 and led Colorado College to a second-place finish Saturday morning at the Ted Castaneda Classic at North Monument Valley Park.
Settles, who also won the Metro State Invitational two weeks ago, finished the 8K race in 24 minutes, 31.37 seconds, the second-fastest time in program history and just two seconds shy of the school record, set by Scott Kang in 1986 (24:29).
Fellow seniors
Devlin Swanson (26:25.56) and
Ayden Cherry (26:39.67) placed 11
th and 13
th, respectively, as the Tigers placed second as a team with 47 points, trailing meet winner CSU-Pueblo, which finished with 20 points. Colorado College was the only Division III team at the meet.
Freshman
Will Shuflit finished 14th with a time of 26:54.90 and senior
Brett Kitazono rounded out the scoring for CC in 16th place in 26:59.04.
"I was encouraged by the improvements many of our guys had today," head coach
Alex Nichols said. "A lot of the guys who had a more challenging start to the season are moving their way back up the ranks. Those improvements put the top-five average time 27 seconds faster than last year's home meet."
The Tigers return to action at the Augustana Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 14 in Rock Island, Ill.
