Dallas Women Fall to Southwestern
The University of Dallas women’s basketball team
couldn’t keep their win streak going in this
afternoon’s 66-57 loss to the Southwestern University Pirates
in Georgetown, TX. Riding the momentum of a three game winning
streak and a defeat of the Pirates in Irving in the first game of
the season, the Crusaders were poised to improve to 5-1.
Unfortunately the Pirates had other ideas and took a commanding
first half lead (33-17), held UD to 26 percent shooting from the
field in the first half, and shot lights out from the field
themselves.
Dallas mounted a valiant comeback in the second frame, outscoring
the Pirates by seven, but the first half hole was too much for UD.
Three Crusaders reached double digit point totals, and sophomore
guard Brielle Money (Dallas, TX/Dallas Christian Academy) recorded
her first double double of the season in the defeat. Money led UD
in UD in both categories and finished with 17 points and 12
rebounds. She also added 2 assists and 2 steals in 37 minutes of
action. Fresh off of scoring her 1,000th point, junior forward Cara
Sczepanski (Highland Village, TX/Marcus H.S.) remained hot to
finish with 13 points while falling 1 rebound away from registering
her fourth double double of the season. Sczepanski did lead the
team with 2 blocks while picking up 2 steals. Freshman guard Kylie
Yoshimura (Temple City, CA/Mark Keppel H.S.) was the third Dallas
player to finish the game in double digits by adding 10 points,
while snatching 2 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists.
The UD women are idle before returning to the court on Saturday,
December 19 against Rhodes College. The 4-2 Crusaders tip off
against the Lynx at 1:00pm in Irving, TX.
