Volleyball Drops Four set thriller to ETBU

In the opening game of their 2022 season, the University of St. Thomas Celts Volleyball team fell to the ETBU Tigers in four sets. This was a highly competitive match featuring 32 ties and 14 lead changes. 

After the Celts took an early 3-1 lead, the Tigers answered and kept things close to the end, as the opening set concluded at 27 points. Set two saw a similar outcome as neither team was willing to give an inch until the Tigers won at 26 points. In set three, the Celts were able to shine as they took a 15-11 lead. Capped off by a service ace from Laynee Beam, the Celts stole the set 25-18. After falling behind early in the final set, the Tigers went on a timely 4-0 run midway through the set to secure a 25-21 victory. 

Paige Havel would impress in the opener with 13 kills and 19 total points. Laynee Beam would also add four blocks in the effort. Alaina Lanik would also showcase her skills with 19 assists across the board. Finally, the Celt defense was led by Ally Peters with 22 digs in the match. 

Up next, the Celts continue their labor day tournament campaign against the visiting Widener Pride. The game will take place at 7 pm at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletics Center.
