Hansen, Chodnicki Shine as CC Dominates Otterbein

Makay Hansen produced six goals and seven points, and Winston Chodnicki won 18 of 23 faceoffs and scooped up 10 ground balls to help lead the Colorado College men's lacrosse team to a 17-6 victory over Otterbein College on Wednesday afternoon at Washburn Field.

Hansen recorded four goals and an assist during the first 17 minutes as the Tigers raced to an 11-2 lead. He needed just 11:30 to post his fourth hat trick of the season, giving CC a 5-1 lead on a man-up tally with 3:30 remaining in the first quarter.

After the Cardinals trimmed their deficit to three on Nick Asuan's goal with 1:23 to play in the first, the Tigers rattled off six consecutive second-quarter scores to take command of the game.

Chodnicki played a massive role in the scoring barrage by winning seven of nine faceoffs, allowing Colorado College to play make it, take it.

Elliot Nelson, who finished the game with two goals and an assist, started the surge by scoring off a feed from Hansen. Less than a minute later, Max Rieser set up Hanson's fourth goal, and after Luca Lietti made the score 8-2, Rieser scored twice in a span of 45 seconds to give the Tigers an eight-goal cushion.

The first of Coby Petau's three goals gave CC an 11-2 lead, but Xander Seal scored twice for the Cardinals, including a goal with three seconds to play before halftime. It proved to be the only time in the game that Otterbein struck for consecutive scores.

A pair of goals from Petau gave the Tigers 13-4 lead a little more than four minutes into the third quarter, and Makay gave Colorado College a double-digit lead for the first time when he scored with 1:08 to play in the frame.

At the other end of the field, Sam DiMaio, John Lawrence and Cooper Lee combined for seven caused turnovers and 10 ground balls.

Andrew Harwood made nine saves before exiting with 4:14 remaining in the game.

Coach's Comments
"While we were a little inconsistent, our team showed up and played good, unselfish Tiger lacrosse," head coach Sean Woods said. "Twelve of our 17 goals were assisted. Andrew Harwood and Billy Hutchison had our defense on the same page most of the game. Winston Chodnicki was great again at the dot and our wing play was excellent. 4-0 is where we wanted to be and expected to be."
