Bulldogs Fall to Centenary in SCAC Tournament Quarterfinals

SHERMAN, Texas -- Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) totaled 16 points, six rebounds, and six steals as the Texas Lutheran men's basketball team lost 64-56 to the Centenary Gents in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday at Hughey Gymnasium on the campus of Austin College.

The Bulldogs (10-15) and Centenary played a tightly contested game deep into the second half until the Gents pulled away late in the second half.

Centenary (13-12) outlasted the Bulldogs as the Gents went on a 16-4 run over the course of eight minutes of second half action taking an 11-point lead, their largest of the game, with just over three minutes remaining. After trailing for the majority of the first half, Texas Lutheran would take a five-point lead early in the second half but would never regain the lead after the 10:24 mark.

Despite winning the turnover and rebounding battles with the Gents, TLU would struggle offensively Friday afternoon shooting 29% from the field and 25% from deep for the game and would only tally 10 points off of 18 forced turnovers.

Jamir Mason (Pearland/St. Thomas Episcopal) led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds and Isaac Orozco (Helotes/O'Connor) had a game-high six assists.

The Bulldogs  - a team picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll - conclude the 2021 season with a 10-15 record, going 8-8 in the SCAC to claim fourth place in the conference in the regular season. The Bulldogs will graduate four seniors - Sebastian Andrade, Cameron Fontenot (Katy/Second Baptist School), Jamir Mason, and student assistant coach Noah Rodriguez. We thank them for all of their contributions to the Texas Lutheran men's basketball program.
