However, Southwestern responded strongly in the fourth inning, capitalizing on St. Thomas' defensive miscues. Ben Feuer's single to center field drove in Tres Organ, tying the game at 1-1. Christian Melillo reached base on an error by the first baseman, allowing Jake Harris to score and giving Southwestern a 2-1 lead. With Melillo stealing second base, Harris capitalized on a wild pitch to sprint home, extending Southwestern's lead to 3-1. Melillo then scored on another wild pitch, further increasing Southwestern's lead to 4-1.
St. Thomas managed to narrow the gap in the fifth inning when Alex Trinh's single to right field brought home Armando Rocha, making the score 4-2.
However, Southwestern pulled away in the seventh inning, as Ben Feuer's single to right field drove in two more runs, extending their lead to 6-2. James Vaquero's walk with the bases loaded and Jacob Tanner's walk with the bases loaded further increased Southwestern's lead to 8-2 to close the game's scoring.
