CONWAY, Ark. - The McMurry University swim teams closed out a busy weekend of competition on Saturday, competing in the 50th annual Hendrix College Classic. The War Hawks women finished second and the men fourth.
Individually, senior
Robyn Remschel had a pair of wins on the women's side. Remschel won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.35 seconds, before taking the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.74).
Senior
Katie Gorka earned a pair of second place honors in the 200 freestyle (2:15.75) and the 500 freestyle (6:09.77). Freshman teammate Jessica Gryder was second in the grueling 1000 freestyle (13:03.98) and third (behind Gorka) in the 500 free (6:21.66).
Newcomer Mariah Rhoades was the runner-up in the 200 individual medley, touching in a time of 2:34.39 minutes. Rhoades also swam the anchor leg of McM's 400-freestyle relay – including Remschel, Gryder and
Kaylee Cook - which was second place in a time of 4:01.70.
The War Hawks men had three individual winners on the day. Junior
Jerick Pena was golden in the 200 IM (2:01.78), as well as in the 200 backstroke (2:03.42).
Freshman Jeremiah Atkins was McM's other winner in the 200 butterfly. Atkins touched in a time of 2:13.38.
Junior
Austin Gombas picked up a second in the 100 freestyle (52.70) and a third in the 200 free (2:00.44).
McMurry's 400-freestyle relay quartet of
Zakai Love, Brayden Miller, Atkins and Pena managed a second place, as well. The group finished in a time of 3:31.71.
