CC Uses 3-Pointers to Down Schreiner

Colorado College utilized torrid three-point shooting to post a crucial 87-69 victory over Schreiner University on Friday night at Reid Arena.

The Tigers scored 42 points from behind the arc and climbed into a three-way tie with Schreiner and Southwestern University in the battle for the last of six berths in the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Feb. 28-March 1 in Kerrville, Texas.

Aaron Acosta connected six of 12 long-range shots as part of a 22-point performance.

Nabeel Elabdeia was 4-for-6 from three-point range and finished with a season-high 12 points. He also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists.

CooXooEii Black, who was honored before the game for becoming the seventh player in program history to record 1,500 or more points, recorded his 10th double-double of the season with game highs of 26 points and 13 rebounds.

It marked the ninth game in a row and the 15th time this season Black scored 20 or more points in a game.

CC took control of the game during the final five minutes of the first half when it outscored the Mountaineers 15-2.

Acosta hit a contested three-pointer from the left sideline as time expired to give the Tigers a 43-32 lead after 20 minutes.

After Schreiner trimmed its deficit to eight points on Chase Pinter's three-pointer 1:43 into the second half, Colorado College utilized a 24-8 surge to build a 24-point lead with 10:15 to play.   

The Mountaineers led 17-9 after Matthew Rindahl scored on a layup 6:35 into the game, but the Tigers rallied to take the lead for good with 4:09 to play in the first half.

Schreiner's Alex Dehoyos scored 17 of his 23 points in the first half.
 

Colorado College Standouts
Jack McRoskey scored 13 points and dished out a game-high four assists.
Nabeel Elabdeia finished with a season-high 12 points, going 4-for-6 from long range.
 
Schreiner University Standouts
Matthew Rindahl grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and added eight points.
Chase Pinter Scored nine points, going 3-for-7 from behind the arc.
 
Notes
Colorado College improved to 7-14 overall and 5-10 in the SCAC.
Schreiner dropped to 7-15 overall and 5-10 in the conference.
 
Next for the Tigers
Colorado College plays host to Trinity University on Saturday at 4 p.m. in its final home game of the season. CC's three seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
