GEORGETOWN, Texas - After leading most of the contest UD pulled ahead late in the second half but the Pirates responded with a huge run to seal the win.
Southwestern led most of the first half until UD went on a run, tying the game 21-21 with 10:20 remaining. SU ended with just a one-point advantage at the break, 37-36.
With nine minutes to play Southwestern lost the lead, 65-64, but SU held the Crusaders scoreless in the next four minutes to go up by seven 72-65.
Southwestern was never threatened late as SU cruised to the win.
Joel Martinez posted a career-high 18 points to lead SU. Zach Whitlock added 17 while Ryan Ogden grabbed a team high 12 rebounds.
SU moves to 12-11 on the year and 7-5 in the SCAC with the win. With two games to play SU has secured a bid to the SCAC Championship and await their seeding.
Southwestern could finish as high as second in the conference with a pair of wins but could finish in fifth overall.
The Pirates move to 12-11 on the year and 7-5 in the SCAC. They remain at home to face Colorado College at 7:30 pm Saturday.
