Red-Hot Tigers Torch Bluejays

Colorado College continued its torrid scoring pace during Saturday's 20-5 victory over Elmhurst College at Washburn Field.

Twelve Tigers struck for at least one goal as CC racked up 20 or more for the third time in four games.

At the other end of the field, Colorado College surrendered a season-low five goals while extending its winning streak to five games.

For the second game in a row, the Tigers raced to a 9-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Tallies by Tom Haller, Max Rieser and John Sutro on CC's first three shots were a sign of what was to come.

Andrew Harwood stopped Mac Harden's shot from the left wing on Elmhurst's first trip into its offensive zone, and after a Tiger turnover, Marcus Yandall rang a shot off the post from the right side.

Tyler Borko and Haller scored 43 seconds apart to extend the lead to 5-0, and then markers from Sutro and Parker Woo in a span of 17 seconds extended Colorado College's lead to seven with four minutes remaining.

Boe Gold and Aaron Maslow capped CC's first quarter explosion with goals during the final 60 seconds.

The Tigers tacked on scores by Jack O'Donnell and Rieser before Cullen Nordeman struck for a man-up goal to put the Bluejays on the board midway through the second quarter.

Long-stick midfielder Billy Hutchinson scored the goal of the game with a little more than five minutes remaining in the first half, catching Tom Haller's pass on his knees and whistling a low shot past Elmhurst goalkeeper Jake Delgado.

Hutchison completed the first multiple-goal game of his career late in the third quarter.

Gold led Colorado College with three goals, while Borko finished with a pair of goals and three assists.

Haller and Sutro produced two goals and an assist, and Elliott Nelson scored twice.

CC won 21 of 28 faceoffs and built a 38-19 margin in ground balls.

The extra possessions resulted in a 65-28 advantage in total shots for the Tigers.

Woo went 9-for-11 at the dot and picked up a game-high nine ground balls.

Jacob Rogers won seven of 10 faceoffs, while Andrew Braswell won three of four.

Harwood stopped 10 shots during a little more than three quarters of action. It marked the second time this season as well as the 16th time in his career the junior goalkeeper made double-digit saves.

Jack Ammons and Carter Richardson, along with Charlie Gans caused two turnovers apiece.

CC diffused five of six man-down situations, including one that lasted a full two minutes midway through the third quarter.

Delgado, a native of Parker, Colo., came off the bench to make 12 saves for the Bluejays.

Harden and Luke McAdams scored two goals apiece for Elmhurst, which slipped to 2-3.

Quinn Stokes led the Bluejay defense with four caused turnovers, while Trent Nyberg grabbed a team-best four ground balls.

Colorado College, which improved to 5-2, renews its rivalry with former Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member Sewanee on Tuesday, March 19, at 1 p.m.
