Senining's walk-off single completes sweep of Mountaineers

GEORGETOWN, Texas - R.J. Senining drove home the game winner in the bottom of the ninth in game two Saturday to help the Pirates complete the sweep of Schreiner University and move to 11-10 on the year and 5-4 in the SCAC. 

Southwestern led 6-0 through five innings before the Mountaineers began to heat up. Schreiner posted three in the sixth and four in the seventh to take the lead. Cole Kelly drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh, tying the game 7-7 to set up the furried finish. 

Aaron Clark worked out of a jam in the top of the ninth to give Southwestern a chance at the win. Seth Sparks started the Pirates on the right foot with a single through the left side to start the inning and was moved to second on a hit-and-run by Dowdell. Colby Schmidt drew a walk and Austin Smith was hit by the pitch to load the bases with two outs. Senining entered the box and drove two down the right field line narrowly in foul territory before dropping the game-winning single in right field. 

Senining has a monstrous outing in the finale, going 4-5. Byron Dowdell II drove home three runs while going 2-5 from the plate. 

Smith started the contest on the mound and was nearly perfect through five. Clark secured the win with three strikeouts in 2.2 innings while allowing two hits. Schreiner's Baker garnered the loss. 

Southwestern dominated game one, exploading for four runs in the first and added four more in the seventh en route to their second 10-2 victory of the weekend. Starting pitcher Will Preston allowed just one run in 7.1 innings of work to earn the win. Schmidt led offensively, going 2-3 with two walks and three RBIs. Daniel Montgomery and Senining also posted 2-3 outings in game one. 

The Pirates remain at home and return to non-conference play, facing UT Tyler on Tuesday at 6 pm.
