McKenzee Gertz posted her sixth double-double of the season, but her efforts were not enough to get Colorado College a road victory at Schreiner University on Friday night.
Sydney Williams poured in a game-high 24 points as the Mountaineers salvaged a split in the season series with an 80-65 win.
Gertz matched her season high of 23 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Tigers, who slipped to 8-9 overall and 5-4 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Casey Torbet added 14 points and climbed past Courtney Tyus (2011-15) into 12th place on CC's career scoring list. The senior point guard needs just 45 points to pass Liz Kolbe (2004-08) for 11th place.
Colorado College appeared poised to add a third road victory to its ledger when
Nia Duplain's layup gave the Tigers a 32-24 lead with a little more than seven minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Unfortunately, CC went ice cold for the next 12 minutes when it scored just four points.
Schreiner took advantage of the opportunity and opened a 48-36 cushion when Williams scored on a layup midway through the third quarter.
Back-to-back three-pointers from Torbet and Gertz capped an 8-0 run to pull the Tigers to within four points, and they were within 53-50 after Duplain scored with 2:06 to play in the third.
That, however, proved to be as close as Colorado College would get.
The Mountaineers answered with nine consecutive points to push its lead back to 12 a little more than two minutes into the fourth quarter and CC never closer than eight points the rest of the way. Â
Schreiner's Alyssa Viera sank 11 of 14 free throws and finished with 19 points. Â Â Â
Josline Hernandez added 11 points for the Mountaineers, who improved to 2-13 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Colorado College travels to San Antonio to face Trinity University on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CT.
