Second Half Goal Gives Pirates Loss

BELTON, Texas - Mary Hardin-Baylor punched in a goal ten minutes into the second half and were able to hold off a strong Pirate attack as Southwestern fell 1-0 on Friday evening.

Defense controlled the first half of the game with Southwestern getting just two shots off while UMHB was held to only four shots in the frame.

As the second half got underway Southwestern turned up the heat and took three shots in the first 10 minutes that were just off frame, holding the game scoreless.

Mary Hardin-Baylor took the lead in the 59th minute on a shot by Ashley Teague inside the box, assisted by Eliza Faillace. Southwestern came back strong and took three straight shots, but couldn't put one away to tie the game.

After the offensive attack, Mary Hardin-Baylor was looking to pad their lead, but the Southwestern defense kept the attacks in check and allowed the Pirates to remain within striking distance.

Southwestern wasn't able to find the equalizer as the clock wound down and fell 1-0. The Pirates trailed in the shot count 11-8 and corner kicks 5-2. Sarah Nonaka recorded three saves in goal.

The loss drops SU to 0-2 on the season. The come home for the first time this year to face Concordia on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
