SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southwestern men’s soccer
team executed its game plan and seemingly dominated their
non-conference match against Rowan University, but fell 1-0 in San
Antonio on Friday night. The Pirates took 16 more shots than the
Profs and had five more corners but were unable to capitalize on
any.
With the contest scoreless throughout the majority of the match,
Southwestern was able to apply continuous pressure with a constant
barrage of shots, but Rowan’s keeper Cunliffe kept the
Pirates at bay recording nine saves on the evening.
Southwestern’s defense held off the Prof attack most of the
way, but in the 73rd minute Rowan’s Renna scored his first
goal of the season to lift the RU to the 1-0 win.
The Pirates fall to 4-4 on the season while Rowan improves to
5-2-1. Southwestern will take the remainder of the weekend off and
return to action on Sunday, October 4th when they play host to the
University of Dallas at 2:00 pm.
