Texas Lutheran starts SCAC play with 64-63 thriller over Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Defending conference champion Texas Lutheran opened defense of its title with a 64-63 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Thursday over Colorado College.

In CC's Reid Arena, Sebastian Andrade (El Paso/Americas) drained a jumper in the lane with 23 seconds to play to give the Bulldogs a one-point advantage.

After the Bulldogs forced a CC turnover but then missed the front end of a one-and-one, the Tigers rushed the ball up the length of the court with three seconds remaining in the game. The ball came loose in CC's end of the court, and the Tigers could not get a shot off at the buzzer.

TLU improved to 4-4 overall and to 1-0 in the SCAC. CC dropped to 2-6 overall and to 0-2 in the SCAC.

Caleb Lister (Baytown/Baytown Christian) led the Bulldogs with 16 points and seven rebounds. He added three steals and two assists, and he was the primary defender on CC all-conference forward CooXooEii Black.

Black, the main defender on Lister, led the Tigers with 24 points and seven rebounds. He was 8-for-18 from the floor and collected three assists and two steals.

Aaron Acosta came off the Tiger bench to score 17.

The Bulldogs put two other players in double figures. Andrade scored 12 and grabbed seven rebounds, and Jamir Mason (Pearland/St. Thomas Episcopal) chipped in 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

There were nine lead changes in the game, and the contest was tied seven other times.
