Women's Basketball Loses to McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – The Southwestern University Pirates women's basketball team surrendered a combined 37 points in points off turnovers and second-chance points in a 65-53 loss to the McMurry War Hawks.

The frontcourt tandem of Cecily Woolfolk and Noel Pratts were the lone Pirates in double figures, helping Southwestern to a 32-26 advantage in points in the paint.

Woolfolk led Southwestern with 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting and five rebounds while Pratts scored 12 points on 16 shots with four rebounds, two steals and two assists. The duo combined for nine points in the first quarter in a strong Pirates' start, taking an 18-17 lead after the first quarter.

The Pirates only managed 10 points in the second quarter, however, trailing 32-28 at the break.

Southwestern shot just 33.3 percent in the third quarter while for Skyler Reyna scored 10 second-half points to keep the Pirates at bay, finishing with a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds, shooting 8-for-15 from the field, including 2-for-4 from deep.

Though McMurry finished with just three more shot attempts than Southwestern, the War Hawks capitalized on extra opportunities with a 14-7 advantage in second-chance points and a 23-8 edge in points off turnovers.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 2-5 on the season. Southwestern will return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 14, opening conference play on the road against Colorado College, followed by a game against Johnson & Wales University on Sunday, Dec. 15.
