Baseball Drops Game 1 To Hendrix 3-1

In a tightly contested baseball matchup on March 1, 2024, Hendrix emerged victorious over St. Thomas (Tex.) with a final score of 3-1.

The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Hendrix broke the deadlock. Drake Job grounded out to second base, allowing Adam Bland to cross the plate and give Hendrix a 1-0 lead.

Both teams struggled to generate offense until the seventh inning when Hendrix extended their lead. Joesph Watts reached on a fielder's choice, driving in Shaun Pope and doubling Hendrix's lead to 2-0.

St. Thomas (Tex.) responded in the eighth inning with Mason Seay hitting a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Israel Fields to score and cutting the deficit to 2-1.

However, Hendrix managed to add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Shaun Pope hit a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing home Hogan Ralston and giving Hendrix a 3-1 advantage.

Despite a late rally attempt by St. Thomas (Tex.), they couldn't overcome Hendrix's lead, and the game ended with a 3-1 victory for Hendrix.

Pitching was crucial for both teams, with Aiden Leggett leading the way for Hendrix, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings. St. Thomas (Tex.) pitchers Landon Murray, Gilberto Arreozola, and Walker Holzhausen also put up a strong performance but couldn't prevent the Hendrix offense from securing the win.
