The Rhodes College baseball team defeated NAIA opponent Union University this afternoon at Stauffer Field. Rhodes took an early 1-0 through after three and stretched it to 4-1 after five and put the game away with a five run bottom of the seventh. Junior
Hunter Chandler collected his first victory for the Lynx, as Rhodes improved to 8-2 on the year.
In his first collegiate start, freshman
Tony Pikos went four innings, allowed 4 hits, no runs, walked 2 and struck out 1. Chandler worked the fifth and sixth allowing 2 hits, 1 unearned run, no walks, and struck out 1. Senior
Max Gertz relieved Chandler in the seventh allowing no hits, no runs, but walked 1. Freshman
John White did not allow a runner to reach base in the eighth, while striking out one. Sophomore
Remick Smothers finished off the game in the ninth.
The Lynx offense was led by senior 2B
Andy Boucher who was 2-2 on the day with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and walked twice. Junior CF Andy Meier was 1-3 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, walked once, and stole 2 bases. Junior RF

Brogan Jayne was 2-4 with a run scored.
Rhodes will return to action this weekend with a double header against Marietta College on Saturday starting at 11:00 and a single game Sunday against Blackburn College at 1:00.
