Tigers fall to first-place DePauw

DePauw University used a 15-3 run late in the first half to break open a close game and went on to post an 81-66 victory over Colorado College on Saturday night at Reid Gymnasium. 

Colorado College trailed 32-26 when Emily Wattman-Turner knocked down a three-point shot with 8:01 remaining, but scored just three points during the ensuing 5:34 as DePauw opened up an 18-point lead.

Jordy Stephenson scored five points as CC closed out the half with a 7-2 run which trimmed its deficit to 51-38 after 20 minutes.

Colorado College trailed 57-46 after Becky Luetjen sank a pair of free throws with 14:16 remaining in the game, but DU used a 13-6 run to build its advantage back to 18 points and CC was unable to get closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

DePauw scored 38 points in the paint and had 20 second-chance points.

Collier Clegg, who led CC with a game-high 20 points, knotted the game at 18-18 when she buried a 3-pointer 7:21 into the game, but DePauw went on a 14-5 run to open up a 32-23 lead.

Luetjen and Alyssa Aldaz added 12 points apiece. Luetjen led CC with nine rebounds.

Jenna Fernandez paced DePauw with 13 points, while Katie Mathews added 10.

DePauw shot .538 from the floor during the first half and finished with a .478 field-goal percentage, but made just 7 of 18 free throws.

DU improved to 17-3 overall and 10-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Tigers dropped to 11-8 overall and 5-6 in the SCAC.

CC travels to Texas next weekend for a conference game at Austin College on Saturday and its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday at the University of Dallas.
