Celts close out season at Huston-Tillotson

AUSTIN – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas concluded their 2019 volleyball season Friday with a hard-fought, four-set match at Huston-Tillotson.

The host Rams won the match by scores of 25-11, 19-25, 25-20, and 25-22.

Emily Jaroszewski (JR/Sugar Land, Texas) knocked down 10 kills and hit .292 to lead the Celts (9-21). Alaina Lanik (FR/Richmond, Texas) also hit .292, as she knocked down nine kills for the Celts. Alyssa Ajlouny (SO/Cypress, Texas) put away eight kills, followed by seven kills from Annie Woods (FR/Livingston, Texas).

Kelsie Walker (JR/Baytown, Texas) handed out a team-high 16 assists, followed by 15 assists from Lanik. Kaylyn Latin (JR/Houston, Texas) led the defensive effort with 25 digs, while Walker recorded 14 digs for the Celts.

Huston-Tillotson, a longtime rival from the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference, improved to 24-5 with the victory. St. Thomas completed its first season in the NCAA's Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference; NCAA Division III teams cannot give scholarships based on athletic ability.

The Celts graduate only one senior from the 2019 squad. Alysse Villadiego (SR/Richmond, Texas) had four digs in her last match as a Celt. A two-year letterwinner with the Celts, Villadiego finished the season with 180 digs, which ranked fifth on the team.
