Men’s Soccer: Scots blow past Tigers

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team played its fifth game of the fall against the Colorado College Tigers, on Sunday September 12. They took on the Tigers at Macalester Stadium and won 6-2. The Scots improve their record to 2-3.

The Scots dominated the game. Although Colorado College struck first in the 16th minute, the Scots answered back quickly with a goal from first year Hans Haenicke (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) in the 27th minute. Just six minutes later, senior Will Orser (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial) scored a penalty kick. Junior Silas Southworth (Lancaster, NH/White Mountains Regional) rounded out the half with a goal in the 44th minute off assists from seniors Danny Peak (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) and Rohit Shah (Sunnyvale, CA/Harker School).

Macalester picked up right where they left off once the second half whistle blew. In the 47th minute, senior Jack Muller (Carmel, IN/Carmel) scored off assists from Haenicke and senior Omar Anwar (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville Area). Senior Ben Wagner (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) finished out the scoring for the Scots with two goals back-to-back in the 50th and 51st minute. Sophomore Branko Sciortino (Los Altos, CA/Bellermine College Prep) and junior Joey Stern (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) assisted Wagner's goals respectively.

The Tigers scored once more in the 59th minute, but the Scots attacking power prevailed. The Scots look to keep this momentum into their next game on Wednesday Sept. 15. They will host Concordia College (Minn.) at Macalester Stadium for Scots' first conference matchup of the season. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
