Ladies Fall To Crusaders 3-0 In Regular-Season Finale

Irving, Texas - The Centenary women's soccer team fell 3-0 to the Dallas Crusaders on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match and the Ladies' regular-season finale at the UD Soccer Facility.

The Ladies finish the season at 4-10-2 and 2-3-2 in SCAC play while Dallas improved to 9-5-1 and 4-2-1 in conference play. Centenary was in contention for the SCAC Tournament but need a win against the Crusaders to clinch a berth. The Ladies edged the Austin College 'Roos 2-1 in overtime on Friday evening in Sherman, Texas as senior MF/D Gabby McDonald (Pasadena, Texas) scored both goals for the Maroon and White, including the game winner just over five minutes into the OT period to give the Ladies the road victory.

Centenary was back in action on Friday for the first time in 12 days after recording a 2-1 home win over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs on Oct. 17 on their annual Senior Day at Mayo Field. The Ladies finished 3-6-1 on the road this season.

The match was scoreless at halftime and then he Crusaders scored a trio of second-half goals to secure the home victory. Maddie Rodriguez found the net just seconds into the second half off the assist from Monica O'Donnell for a 1-0 lead. Alyssa Mencacci scored the Crusaders' second goal in the 72nd minute and Bekah Gonzalez connected on a penalty kick 15 minutes later for a late goal and the final 3-0 margin.

Senior GK Avery Sanderson (McKinney, Texas) made two saves just over 89 minutes of action and allowed all three goals. Freshman keeper Emma Oertling (Lake Charles, La.) played the final 1:53 of the match. Dallas GK Kaitlyn Vess played all 90 minutes and recorded one save. Dallas took 11 shots in the match while the Ladies took five.

McDonald finished as the Ladies' leader in goals this season with three and sophomore F Daisy Acosta (Deer Park, Texas) was right behind her with two. Seven different Ladies tied for the team lead in assists with one. McDonald was the team leader in points with seven while Acosta finished with five. Sanderson made 46 saves in 13 starts and recorded one shutout.
