Box Score Sophomore goaltender Chase Murphy made a season-high 16 saves to help Colorado College cruise to an 11-5 victory over Babson College on Wednesday afternoon at Washburn Field.
 
Murphy, who recorded double-digit saves for the fourth time this season and the 11th time in his career, steered aside six shots during the fourth quarter when the Tigers were flagged for four one-minute penalties and played two men down for 67 seconds.
 
CC also received dominating performances from senior long-stick midfielder P.J. Higgins and junior midfielder Sayre Thomas. Higgins paced the defensive effort with a career-high nine ground balls and one caused turnover, while Thomas won 17 of 19 faceoffs and grabbed eight ground balls.
 
The Tigers' man-down unit successfully stopped seven of eight opportunities, including a pair in the fourth quarter while playing down two men.
 
Alex Packer scored a pair of goals for the Beavers, the first of which gave his team a 1-0 lead just 1:12 into the contest.
 
After that, the CC defense clamped down and gave its offense a chance to find its rhythm.
 
Jack Kreitler knotted the score with 2:14 remaining in the first period to ignite what proved to be a decisive 9-2 run. Gray Ritger put Colorado College ahead 1:23 into the second period, and Tyler Allen scored four seconds later to give the Tigers a two-goal lead.
 
After Bobby MacCune cut Babson's deficit to 3-2, Jack McCormick and Kreitler scored to give CC a 5-2 advantage after 30 minutes.
 
The Tigers broke the game open with a 5-2 surge in the third quarter. After Will Harris and Packer traded goals in the opening minutes, Tyler Allen and Tylor Paul scored 49 seconds apart to build an 8-3 cushion for Colorado College.
 
Austin Davie gave the Tigers a six-goal lead with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter and the teams struck twice apiece during the final 20 minutes to close out the scoring.
 
Kreitler and Allen each finished with two goals and two assists to fuel the Colorado College attack. McCormick scored twice and set up one other marker.      
 
CC finished with a 43-27 advantage in total shots, including a 26-21 edge on target.
 
Babson's Adam Daroff made nine saves before giving way to Giles Ober with a little more than 20 minutes remaining in the game.
 
Colorado College plays host to Otterbein University on Friday, March 21, at 1 p.m.
