
Gents Fall At Colorado College On Friday
The Centenary men's basketball team could not keep pace with the sharp-shooting Colorado College on Friday night as the Gents fell 101-72 to the Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest inside Reid Arena.
Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Centenary men's basketball team could not keep pace with the sharp-shooting Colorado College on Friday night as the Gents fell 101-72 to the Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest inside Reid Arena.
The Gents (6-10, 4-3 SCAC) lost their second game in a row and fell to 1-3 on the road this season while the Tigers improved to 8-8 overall and 4-3 in SCAC play.
Centenary shot just 32.3 % (20-62) from the floor for the game, and made only six of 27 attempts from beyond the arc for 22.2 %, while finishing 26-36 at the free-throw line for 72.2 %. Colorado College finished 39-67 from the floor for 58.2 %, 11-24 from 3-point range for 45.5 %, and 12-20 at the FT line for 60 %. The Tigers raced out to a 48-27 halftime lead and outscored the Gents 53-45 in the second half to seal the win.
Senior G Craig Collier (North Little Rock, Ark.) led the Gents with 22 points and was one of three Centenary players to reach double figures as he was joined by freshman G Trenton Thomas (Cedar Hill, Texas) (11 points) and senior F Jakobi Greenleaf (Houston, Texas) who scored 10.
Freshman G Nicholas Addison (Cedar Hill, Texas) and senior G Kyron Powell (Fort Worth, Texas) each scored eight, and senior G Jalen Ned (New Orleans, La.) scored seven. Junior G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas), freshman G Allen Paul (Katy, Texas), and freshman G Sirwilliam McDuffie (Houston, Texas) each scored two points.
Asher Nofziger matched Collier with a game-high 22 points, Scott Ruegg scored 21, and Devin Philio had 10. Nofziger pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for a double-double. Ty Hendler and Leo Magnus each scored eight points, and seven Tigers combined to score 32 points.
The Tigers dominated inside, finishing with a 54-22 advantage in points in the paint and outrebounded the Gents 46-35. Colorado College doubled up Centenary in second-chance points (18-9) and scored 34 bench points to the Gents' 29. Centenary finished with a 10-3 advantage in fast break points and scored 17 points off of the Tigers' 13 turnovers while Colorado College scored 13 points off of Centenary's 11 miscues.
Collier remained red-hot as he has now reached double figures a team-high 12 times this season and has done so in eight-straight games and has scored 20+ points eight times this season. He finished 8-16 from the floor and 3-4 at the FT line with three treys in 38 minutes. He added two rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Thomas played 22 minutes and was 3-11 from the floor and 4-4 at the FT line with one trey and added six rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot, and a steal. Greenleaf was 1-5 from the floor and 8-12 at the FT line in 21 minutes with five boards and an assist. Addison played 27 minutes and was 4-9 from the floor with five rebounds, an assist, and a steal and Powell was 1-2 at the floor with a trey and finished 5-6 at the FT line in 15 minutes with an assist and a rebound. Ned played 13 minutes and finished 1-3 from the floor, 1-2 from beyond the arc, and 4-4 at the FT line with one rebound.
The Gents' four-game road trip continues on Sunday with another key league contest versus the of St. Thomas Celts in Houston at 2 p.m. Next weekend's travels take the Gents to Kerrville, Texas on Jan. 31 to face Schreiner University and to San Antonio on Feb. 1 to face Trinity University.
