UD Women Fall Behind Early, Lose to Austin
In their first game of the season against the Austin College
Kangaroos, UD lost 63-52 Wednesday evening at the MaherCenter in
Irving. UD got off to a slow start and trailed by 11 at the break.
In the second half, Dallas mounted a comeback and was in striking
distance of the Kangaroos late before eventually losing by 11. UD
matched the Kangaroos 27 second half points but was unable to
overcome the early deficit.
Junior forward Cara Sczepanski (Highland Village, TX/Marcus H.S)
led the Crusaders on the offensive end by putting up 20 points. She
also hauled down 6 rebounds and made her presence felt on the
defensive side, with a team leading 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Fellow
junior forward Joirdan Cole (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch H.S.) tied for
the team lead in rebounds at 10 with junior guard Bethany Roessler
(Phoenix, AZ/Xavier College Prep). Cole also led the team with 3
blocks, while adding a steal to go along with her 8 points, while
Roessler added 7 points, a block, and an assist. Freshman guard
Kylie Yoshimura (Tempe City, CA/Mark Keppel H.S) dished out 6
assists, stole 3 passes, and blocked a shot.
The UD women have another shot against the Kangaroos of Austin
College later in the season when they travel to Sherman, TX on
February 3. Like the home game, the rematch tips off at 6:00pm.
After a brief rest, UD will next travel to HollySprings, MS to take
on the Rust College Bearcats. The game starts at 5:00pm.
