SEGUIN, Texas -- Matthew Hickey tossed six shutout innings to lead the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 2-1 non-conference victory Thursday night against Pacific Lutheran.
At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, Hickey struck out six, allowed five hits, and worked around three walks. The sophomore left-hander improved to 2-0 on the season.
TLU moved to 5-2 overall with its fourth straight victory.
PLU, out of Tacoma, Wash., fell to 2-5.
TLU designated hitter Alex Cornman went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Spencer Brandt and Collin Docker each drove in runs.
Zach Perry picked up the save with three innings of quality relief. The junior right-hander struck out four and allowed just two hits and a run.
TLU and PLU play game two of their four-game series at 6 p.m. Friday night at Katt-Isbel Field. The clubs also play a Saturday doubleheader, starting at noon.
