Celts turn away Concordia Texas 1-0

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas resumed their winning ways Sunday with a 1-0 win at Concordia Texas.

Sebastian Leal (SO/Houston, Texas)'s strike in the ninth minute proved to be the difference-maker as the Celts improved their season record to 3-3. The goal was Leal's first of the season.

Sunday's win was the Celts' second in their past three matches. Concordia Texas dropped to 2-4-1 with the defeat.

UST goalkeeper Omar Lopez (JR/Alvin, Texas) improved his record to 2-0 with the shutout win, his second shutout of the season. Lopez was tasked with three saves, while the Celts defense drastically limited Concordia's ability to set up its offense.

The match was fairly clean, as each side committed only eight fouls over the course of 90 minutes. Concordia Texas had five corner kicks to UST's three, but was unable to convert those chances to goals.

The Celts return to action Friday when they host the University of Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and will be the second match of a women's-and-men's doubleheader between the two programs.
