RYAN STEVENS OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a junior left-handed pitcher from Longview, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending June 1, 2014.

Stevens, who served as the baseball representative on the Centenary College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this past year, will serve as that group’s President in 2014-15.

In addition to his time on the diamond, Stevens has helped to organize as well as participating in the Centenary College Service Week, which is sponsored by the Centenary SAAC.

This week-long event gave the student-athletes to interact and assist with various organizations in the Shreveport community.

The school’s 17 intercollegiate programs divided into small groups to lend a helping hand at Common Ground, the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank and Querbes SPAR Recreation Center with service projects that consisted of dinner preparation, helping in the community garden, cleanup projects, tutoring and various other activities.

Centenary College student-athletes totaled 200-plus hours of community service during the week.

In addition to his work with Service Week, Stevens has also volunteered at the Glen in Shreveport with Animal Assisted Therapy and he has helped pack bins for the campus Christmas Toy Drive.

KRISTI ELLIS OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior from Petoskey, Mich., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending June 1, 2014.

Ellis has been a tremendous representative of Texas Lutheran both athletically and in the community. The track and field star won the high jump, finished second in the triple jump and was third in the javelin to earn all-conference honors in all three events at the 2014 SCAC Track & Field Championships. She was also fifth in the long jump.

Away from the track, Ellis has served both the campus and Seguin community through participation in TLU's Dog Days, a campus-wide community service initiative.

Along with her work in Dog Days, Ellis also helped provide food for the hungry though TLU's Empty Bowls program. The program originates through TLU's ceramics department. She has also served the Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter during her time at TLU.

Along with her impressive community contributions, she also served as the TLU representative in the SCAC 8-in-8 tour this year.
