WOMEN'S GOLF - MOMENT #20
May 13-16, 2003
The DePauw University women finish third at the 2003 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships and, with last year's fourth-place showing, become the first team in any sport at DePauw to finish in the top four at the NCAA Championships in consecutive years. The Tigers total 1,349 strokes - just one behind second-place Mary Hardin-Baylor. Lindsay Amore leads the Tigers with a 331 - good for a tie for eighth and all-America recognition. Teammates Deb Garriott and Jessica Schneider are also selected all-America - marking the first time the SCAC has producted three all-Americans in a single year.

The third-ranked DePauw University women's golf team shoot a final round 328 and finish in a tie for third at the 2005 NCAA Division III Championships at Mid Pines in Southern Pines, North Carolina. DePauw finished in a tie with Wisconsin-Eau Claire as each totaled 1337 strokes. Methodist won with a 1272 followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1284. The third place finish was the Tigers' fourth consecutive top four showing at the national championships. DePauw finished fourth in 2002 and third in 2003 and 2004. Sophomore Ali Murtaugh finished her first NCAA competition by finishing in a tie for 15th as she shot a 331 including an 81 in the final round. Sarah Gates shot a fourth-round 83 and finished in a tie for 18th with a 334.

At the 2002 SCAC Women's Golf Championships at Deerfield Country Club in Madison, Miss., DePauw University breaks Rhodes College's two-year run as conference champions, defeating the Lynx, 706-711. All five DePauw golfers earn all-conference honors, an unequaled feat up that point of the championships. Laura McKinney of Rhodes, who shoots a two-day total of 165, continues the school’s tradition of garnering top medalist honors, becoming the fourth Lynx linkster in the last six completed championships to be so honored.

Playing on its home course (White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, Texas), the Southwestern University women win their first SCAC golf championship since 1999 and third overall with a 16-shot victory over five-time defending champion DePauw University. Marisa Mauldin leads the way for the Pirates, firing a two-day total of 157 to earn 2007 SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Year honors. Both Southwestern (automatic berth) and DePauw (at-large berth) qualify for the 2007 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships.

The third-ranked DePauw University women's golf team shot a second-round 321 to win its fourth straight SCAC title with a team score of 649 at the 2005 SCAC Women's Golf Championships - contested at Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville, Ark. The 321 second-round score - at that time - was the best second round in SCAC history and the 76-stroke victory margin broke the record of 62 that DePauw set in 2003. Trinity University was second with a 725 and Southwestern University was third at 737. DePauw’s Sarah Gates shot a 160 and earned medalist and SCAC Golfer of the Year honors for the second straight years. Teammates Lindsay Amore shot a 162 to tie for second, while Ali Murtaugh shot a 163 to tie for third.

DePauw University shoots a final round 335 and finishes third at the 2006 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. It is the fourth straight year the Tigers have finished third at the national championships and this year's finish marks DePauw's fifth straight top-four finish in the seven-year history of the tournament. Only Methodist College has more top-three finishes. Southwestern University finishes in 10th place, led by a 48th-place individual finish from Delilah Dominguez. DePauw finishes with a four-round total of 1317, led by junior Sarah Gates, who finishes in a tie for fourth with a 313 after shooting a final round 79. The finish equals Gates' best at the national tournament as she finished fourth in 2004.

DePauw University and Rhodes College go wire-to-wire and finish fourth and fifth respectively at the 2002 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships conducted at South Hadley, Mass. It was the second time in three years the SCAC has had two teams finish in the top 5 in the women’s championship. In an announcement made at the championships, DePauw head coach Vince Lazar is named the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association.

Although no conference team qualifies, Agnes Surowka of Rhodes College becomes the first female golfer from the SCAC to compete in the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships. Surowka shoots a four-day total of 340 to finish in a tie for 21st at the 1999 national tournament.

At the 1999 SCAC Women's Golf Championship, played at The Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas, Southwestern University tops Rhodes College by two strokes (720 to 722) in the closest finish in league history. The title was the second consecutive for the Pirates. Southwestern's Ashlee Martin completed her own back-to-back feat, capturing the league's Golfer-of-the-Year honors for the second consecutive year and becoming the first women's player to win the award more than once.

The Southwestern University women make it three straight conference titles at the 2009 SCAC Golf Championships at Tunica National Golf Course. The Pirates cruise to a 72-shot win, the second-largest margin of victory in SCAC women's championships history. Southwestern senior Marisa Mauldin fired a three-day total of 233 to win her third consecutive SCAC Women's Golfer of the Year honor. Mauldin becomes the second player in league history to accomplish the individual three-peat, following Sarah Gates of DePauw University who finished atop the leader board at the 2004, 2005 and 2006 championships.

The SCAC places three teams in the top-10 of the 2010 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship played at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Southwestern University finishes in the top-five, placing fifth, for the fifth time in school history. DePauw University finishes immediately behind the Pirates in sixth while Centre College, in its first-ever trip to the event - finishes 10th. It marks the first time in league history that three women’s teams have participated in the event and made more the impressive by all three finishing in the top-10. Junior Stephanie Mingos of Rhodes College closed with a final round 76 to finish in a tie for fifth at 316 - the best finish among SCAC individuals. Sophomore Emily Bachert of Centre was close behind, finishing in seventh after recording a four-day total of a 319. Southwestern's Kristen Davenport, playing in her final collegiate event, gave the SCAC three individuals in the top 15, tying for 12th place with a 324.

Behind Emily Burch’s record 150 (72-78) two-day total, the Rhodes College women win their second straight conference title with a two-round record score of 639 at the 2001 SCAC Women's Golf Championships played at the Rolling Meadows Golf Club in Gosport, Ind. DePauw University, the host school, finishes second at 669. Rhodes 639 total represents the lowest two-round score in the history of the event. It was also the second straight SCAC Golfer-of-the-Year honor for Burch as her first-round 72 at the 2001 championships remains the lowest round ever shot at the women's conference tournament.

For the second consecutive year, the DePauw University women's golf team finishes third at the NCAA Division III Championships at the Golf Courses of Lawsonia, Wisc. On a day in which the temperature barely topped 50 degrees and a steady rain was present for the first nine holes, the Tigers shot the days' second best team score at 338 to finish with a four-round total of 1,315. DePauw freshman Sarah Gates finished fourth in her first national tournament with a 319 including rounds of 76, 78, 80 and 85. The tournament marks the first time all season that the Tigers finished behind any Division III teams. For the second time in three years, DePauw head coach Vince Lazar was named the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association.

Southwestern University closes out the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla. with solid performances and finishes in fourth place overall (1,298), just one shot from third place. DePauw University, with a four-day score of 1,321, finishes tied for 11th. Individually, the SCAC places four golfers in the top-15. Southwestern’s Marissa Mauldin finishes in third - which equals the best individual finish by an SCAC women's golfer in the history of the event (Emily Burch, 2001). Mauldin's Southwestern teammate, Kristen Davenport, tallied a 15th-place finish. Centre College’s Emily Bachert was fourth overall and Rhodes College's Stephanie Mingos finished in a tie for 12th among the 111 individual competitors.

Second-ranked DePauw University claims its record fifth straight SCAC women’s golf title and junior Sarah Gates earns SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Year honors for a record third straight year as the Tigers totaled a 668 and win by 17 strokes over Oglethorpe University and 29 over Southwestern University at the 2006 SCAC Women's Golf Championships at the Tims Ford Golf Course at Bear Trace in Winchester, Tenn. Gates, teammate Ali Murtaugh and Oglethorpe's Carrie Shirah each shot a 164 and entered a playoff to determine the medalist. Murtaugh was eliminated after the first playoff hole and Gates claimed the honors on the third hole – the longest playoff for medalist honors in the 12-year history of the event.

Rhodes College shoots a final round 341 to solidify its third-place position at the 2000 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships held at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington, Indiana. Southwestern University holds onto fifth, shooting a final round 359. Rhodes’ Emily Burch, the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Year, finishes in fifth place in the individual scoring. Southwestern's Ashlee Martin finishes 12th among all individuals as both she and Burch earn all-America honors - the first-ever recipients from the SCAC. The appearances by Rhodes and Southwestern are a first for the league at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships. In addition, the SCAC is the only conference with two teams in the championships.

WOMEN'S GOLF - MOMENT #4
May 15-18, 2001
After sitting in second place for three consecutive days, Rhodes College shoots a fourth-round 319 for a four-day total of 1270 (+118) and a third place finish at the 2001 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships – the second-consecutive year that Rhodes has finished third at the national tournament. The Lynx were led by senior Emily Burch, who finished third overall and shot a four-day total of 302 (+14), including a fourth-round tournament-low score of 71. Burch, whose third place individual finish remains tied for the best-ever by a SCAC women's golfer at the DIII Championships, is named First-Team all-American by the National Golf Coaches Association.

WOMEN'S GOLF - MOMENT #3

DePauw University entered the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf Championships at the Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa, seeded ninth, but posted the program's best four-round total in its seven NCAA appearances and finished second for the second straight year. The Tigers shot a 1258 which easily topped last year's 1303 and were second to Methodist which won with a 1219. Southwestern University, led by a 19th place finish by Kristen Davenport (314), was third at 1263. DePauw senior Ali Murtaugh shot a 303 and tied for sixth, while classmate Kristen Kriegshauser fired a 306 for a 10th-place tie. Both topped the previous best four-round DePauw score at the national championships of 313 by Sarah Gates in 2006. Rhodes College's Stephanie Mingos had the best score among SCAC individuals, posting a four-day total of 301 - good for fifth place. Julia Gates of Oglethorpe University finished tied for 13th with a 311 as the SCAC claimed five of the top 20 individual places.

WOMEN'S GOLF - MOMENT #2
April 24-25, 2004
DePauw University, the top-ranked team in Division III women’s golf, cruise to a comfortable 26-shot victory at the 2004 SCAC Women’s Golf Championship, which was contested at Renaissance Pine Isle Resort at Lake Lanier, Ga. DePauw shot an SCAC second-round record 323 for a two-round total of 644. The Tigers also placed all five of its golfer’s on the All-SCAC First Team – a conference first that has yet to be duplicated. DePauw was led by freshman Sarah Gates, who earned SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Year honors with a two-day score of 157 (+11).

DePauw University posts its best finish ever, coming in second place with a team score of 1303 at the 2007 Division III Women’s Golf Tournament played at Mission Inn-El Campeon in Howey in the Hills, Fla. Southwestern University also posts its best finish in program history, coming in fourth out of 20 schools with a team score of 1322. The event was hosted by fellow SCAC school, Oglethorpe University.

DePauw’s Sarah Gates (pictured left), who finished her career as a four-time all-American and three-time conference Golfer-of-the-Year, had the best individual finish among SCAC participants, coming in seventh with a four-day total of 315 (+23).
