Women’s field hockey is voted in as the league’s 19th officially recognized sport in a decision made at the spring SCAC Board of Directors meeting in Annapolis, Maryland. Of the league’s 12 members, four participate in the sport: Centre, DePauw, Rhodes and Sewanee. At this time, the SCAC sponsors 10 women’s sports and nine men’s sports. Hendrix would later add the sport in 2006 with varsity play beginning the fall of 2007.

Sophomore Allison Baccich scores the only goal of the match in the 19th minute in DePauw's 1-0 shutout of Sewanee - the first-ever field hockey match played between conference schools once the league officially recognized the sport the prior spring.

SCAC Offensive Co-Player of the Year, senior forward Lynn Hancock of Sewanee, scores the first goal in a 3-2 victory over DePauw in the semifinals of the 2008 SCAC Field Hockey Championships – her 16th goal of the season. The goal sets the new single season standard in the conference – besting the 15 scored by Sarah Riffle of DePauw in 2006.

Sewanee field hockey coach Jen Baldaccini is named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year for her success in 2008, which was her first season Sewanee. The 2008 Tigers won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) championship, earned a spot in the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history and had four All-SCAC selections, including the co-Offensive Player of the Year and co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Having led his team to arguably the best season in school history, Centre College field hockey head coach Tom Hobbs is named the 2007 Dita/NFHCA Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year. Hobbs led the Colonels to a school record 13 wins (13-5 overall record) while posting the highest winning percentage in school history and earning Centre's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Top-seeded Rhodes completed its run through the SCAC field hockey tournament with a 3-1 victory over Centre in the championship match. The Lynx blanked Sewanee 4-0 in the semifinals to advance to Sunday’s title contest. Jenny Mueller and Elizabeth Erny each scored two goals and added an assist over the course of the weekend as Rhodes won its second conference field hockey championship in three years.

Third-seeded DePauw posted a 1-0 win over second-seeded Centre in the semifinals and a 3-2 win over fourth-seeded Sewanee in the championship match to claim the program’s first-ever field hockey conference title at the 2007 championships at Sewanee. Katie Sowar delivered the game-winning goal with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation to provide the Tigers the 3-2 margin.

Fourth-seeded Centre, after defeating the top-seed Rhodes, 1-0, on strokes the day before, upsets second-seeded DePauw, 2-1 in overtime in Sunday’s SCAC field hockey championship match played at DePauw. Freshman Teresa Johnstone scored the game-winner 5:46 into the extra period to give the Colonels their first field hockey title.

Meghan Cullen and Charlie Wagner of Rhodes College are named to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA DIII All-American Third Team. Cullen and Wagner join Hillary Mast (2004) of Rhodes and Teressa Johnstone (2007) of Centre as being the only SCAC student-athletes named all-American in field hockey.

For the second consecutive year, the SCAC sends a representative to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships, and for the second consecutive year, that representative was sent to open play at Lynchburg (Va.) College. On a cool, wet night the host Hornets stopped Sewanee’s recent win streak at eight with a 4-0 shutout of the visiting Tigers. It was the first NCAA Championships appearance in the program’s 33-year history. Sewanee finishes the season at 14-7 under the first year leadership of coach Jen Baldaccini. The Tigers won their first-ever SCAC Championship and won 14 games for the first time in a decade – only the third time in the program’s history.

Junior forward Charlotte Baptiste of Sewanee scores four goals in a 6-2 victory over Centre – becoming the first (and only) player in SCAC history to score four goals in one match. She also added an assist, giving her the conference’s single-game points scored record (9) as well.

DePauw University sophomore midfielder Margaret Ellis got out in front of the Denison defense for a breakaway goal in the 44th minute, in a 2-1 loss to the Big Red. The goal was Ellis' 17th of the season - a new SCAC single-season record. Ellis tied the previous single-season mark of 16, which had been set by Lynn Hancock of Sewanee-University of the South in 2008, a weekend earlier against Sewanee.

Centre College junior field hockey player Teresa Johnstone is named to two different All-American teams, earning second team recognition by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and third team honors by Womensfieldhockey.com. Johnstone, the SCAC Offensive Co-Player of the Year, was the only conference player to be named to either squad.

November 6-7, 2004
Rhodes, the top seed heading into the event, defeats Centre, 1-0 in overtime, and Sewanee by the same 1-0 result in the championship game to win the 2004 SCAC Field Hockey Tournament – in the inaugural conference championship for the sport. Sophomore forward Hilary Mast, the SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year, scored the game-winner for the Lynx in the 34th minute.

Senior forward Lindsey Gurkovich of Rhodes College scores the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Centre. The goal gives her a SCAC record 91 points for her career – two more than the 89 points accumulated by Teresa Johnstone of Centre from 2005-08.

The SCAC has three seniors compete at the 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-Star Game at Ursinus College. Teresa Johnstone of Centre College, Meredith Ellis of DePauw University and Claiborne Buckingham of Sewanee: University of the South all played well in representing the SCAC. Centre's Johnstone scored her team's second goal of the contest. In addition, Centre head coach Tom Hobbs served as co-head coach for one of the teams.

Rhodes College’s Hilary Mast becomes the league’s first all-American during the SCAC era, earning Third Team honors from womensfieldhockey.com. Mast had seven goals and three assists for 18 points in 14 games – finishing tied for third in the league in scoring.

Following one of its best regular seasons in school history, the Centre College field hockey team was selected to compete in the 24-team NCAA Division III Championship Tournament – becoming the first SCAC school to earn a berth in the national tournament since field hockey was recognized by the conference as an official sport in 2004. Their stay in the tourney, however, was short-lived as the Colonels dropped a 5-0 decision to Lynchburg College in a first round match. Centre finished the season with a 13-5 mark.

Rhodes withstands a game-tying goal by DePauw with no time remaining in regulation but answers with a game-winning goal just 51 seconds into overtime to earn the Lynx its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference field hockey title since 2006 and the program’s third overall championship since the inception of SCAC field hockey in 2004. Junior Lindsey Gurkovich tallies the championship winning goal off an assist by junior captain Charlie Wagner. Rhodes finishes the season at 13-4 (school record for wins) and 7-1 in the SCAC, but does not receive an at-large bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship tournament.

Playing its third game in three days, the No. 4 Sewanee Tigers became SCAC field hockey champions with a 1-0 upset over No. 2 seed and host Centre College. The Tigers and Colonels fought through a scoreless first half, as both defenses set the tone early. Sewanee got the championship clinching goal from sophomore Caroline Carlin (pictured left) off of a penalty-corner with 14:28 to play. It is the first-ever field hockey championship for Sewanee (14-6), who lost its two previous appearances in the SCAC championship match. To date, Sewanee is the only school in SCAC field hockey history to play and win three matches in three days at the conference championship tournament.
