NEW ORLEANS, La.
-- University of Dallas sophomore Anna Wilgenbusch was named the South/Southeast Women's Athlete of the Year in an announcement made today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Complete Release

Wilgenbusch, a sophomore from St. Paul, Minn., won the individual title at the South/Southeast Region Championships this past Saturday in a program record time of 21:29.3. She also won the individual titles at the SCAC Cross Country Championship as well as the Bill Libby Invitational, the ETBU Tiger Invitational, the University of Dallas Invitational, the Muthama-Rogers Invitational, the UT-Dallas Invitational and at the CROOSader Dual Meet.

She is the first SCAC woman to earn Regional Athlete of the Year honors from the USTFCCCA since Maddie Murphy of Trinity University was so honored following the 2013 season.

The victory at the South/Southeast Regional was her ninth straight as she broke her previous 6K program record set a week earlier at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

Wilgenbusch earned SCAC Runner-of-the-Year, All-SCAC First Team, USCAA All-American First Team and USTFCCCA All-Region prior to Tuesday's region Runner-of-the-Year announcement, and matched the UD program all-time record for meet wins in a career with nine. She long broke the single-season record for meet wins at four.
