Eight Teams, Seven Student-Athletes Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its men’s and women's team and individual academic awards as Colorado College, the University of Dallas, Southwestern and Trinity University were named All-Academic teams.

For a team to be considered for this honor, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Overall, there were 393 teams honored by the USTFCCCA, of which 215 were women’s teams and 178 were men’s teams.

On the women’s side, Southwestern, coached by Andrew Diehl, led all SCAC squads with a 3.64 team GPA. Colorado College, coached by Ted Castaneda, totaled a 3.58 team GPA to earn All-Academic laurels. Trinity, coached by Emily Daum, posted a team GPA of 3.44 this season. Dallas head coach Matt Barber and his Crusaders tallied a 3.19 team GPA in earning All-Academic recognition.

Individually, Colorado College senior organismal biology & ecology major Leah Veldhuisen landed on the All-Academic team.

Trinity also placed four individuals on the All-Academic team including senior neuroscience major Allison Hill, senior engineering science major Molly McCullough, junior psychology major Brianna Ratliff and junior biology major Laura Taylor.

On the men’s side, head coach Ted Castaneda led Colorado College to the league’s highest team GPA at 3.59 to garner All-Academic honors. Southwestern, led by head coach Andrew Diehl, totaled a 3.32 GPA to earn All-Academic laurels. Dallas, coached by Matt Barber, posted a team GPA of 3.18 this season. Trinity head coach Emily Daum and her Tigers tallied a 3.14 team GPA in earning All-Academic recognition.

Individually, Trinity sophomores Harrison Bellow and Keaton Holt, a geoscience and physics major respectively landed on the All-Academic team.

To earn individual honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional. There were 682 student-athletes who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with women accounting for 56 percent (382) and men accounting for 44 percent (300) of that total.
