SEGUIN, Texas - The Trinity University women earned the SCAC Cross Country Championship Saturday, with four runners finishing in the top five during the 6K meet at Texas Lutheran University. Individual Results | Team Scores | Official Website | Facebook Photo Album
Trinity University totaled 21 points, including going 1-2 in the event. The Tigers earned their first women's cross country title since 2013, taking down the defending champions Colorado College. This was the first title for Head Coach Emily Daum and the third for Trinity. The Tigers previously won the 2012 and 2013 championships.
Colorado College came in second place with 34 points, with five athletes placing in the top 10. The Tigers were followed by host Texas Lutheran University who finished third with 104 points.
Austin College was close behind with 116 points, ledby Hannah Richards in 15th place. Southwestern University and the University of Dallas finished within four points of each other, with the Pirates taking fifth (138 points) and the Crusaders coming in sixth (142 points).
Schreiner University rounded out the competition in seventh place with 208 points.
Trinity's Laura Taylor captured the individual title, finishing the race in a new SCAC 6K championships record time of 21:22.13. The previous mark of 21:26.41 set by Leslie Dillon of DePauw had stood since 2005. Additionally, this was the first individual SCAC title for a Trinity runner since 2013 when Maddy Murphy took top honors. Taylor's teammate Molly McCullough also broke the old SCAC record mark with her second-place time of 21:25.97..
Jordan Juran of Trinity earned the Newcomer of the Year award after finishing in ninth place. Juran recorded a time of 22:52.54.
