GENEVA NEDROW OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior libero from Cedar Park, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Friday, August 30 through Monday, September 2. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 1)
Nedrow tallied 62 total digs in her first three games of the year, averaging 5.64 digs per set in the Pirates' 3-0 start to the season at the Jim Coleman Memorial on the campus of Aurora (Ill.) University. Nedrow, who earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for her defensive efforts, also scored six service aces and assisted Pirate hitters eighteen times.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior libero Jenna Rodriguez of Trinity earned All-Tournament honors after leading the eighth-ranked Tiger volleyball team to a 3-0 record at the Trinity Fall Classic over the opening weekend of the 2024 season. Rodriguez tallied 67 total digs (5.58 per set) and finished with 20 or more digs in all three victories. She also added 16 assists and tied for the team-lead with seven service aces. Rodriguez began the year with 22 digs (7.33 per set) in a 3-0 win over SUNY Cortland to start the season, then capped the weekend with her best performance - 25 digs, eight assists, and four aces - to take down St. Benedict (MN) 3-1. Senior defensive specialist/libero Faith Coldewey of Texas Lutheran had 66 digs to pace the Bulldogs' defensive efforts at the Trinity Fall Classic. Coldewey averaged 5.50 digs per set as TLU started the 2024 season with a 1-2 mark. Senior defensive specialist/libero Hannah Page of McMurry averaged 4.93 digs per set in the War Hawks' opening weekend which saw the squad equal their entire season's win total from a year ago. Page also added 11 assists. Sophomore libero Laynie Kovacs of Austin College picked up where she left off following her all-conference freshman season, opening her sophomore campaign with an average of 4.40 digs-per-set as the 'Roos went 3-1. Kovacs reached double-digits in digs in all four matches with a high of 22 against Wisconsin-Superior, and added 10 assists and seven service aces. Sophomore defensive specialist/libero Meghan Gannon of Colorado College led the Tigers with 47 digs in the four matches (3.13 per set) at the Pikes Peak Classic. She had a season-high 17 in CC's five-set upset win over #11 Transylvania.
