Emily Ellis, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 3)

EMILY ELLIS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore middle blocker from Georgetown, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played through Sunday, September 15. 

Ellis was named All-Tournament over the weekend, leading No.11 Trinity to a 2-1 record that included a 3-1 win over No.6 Juniata. She tied her career-best total with seven blocks, 14 kills, and a .458 hitting percentage in the opening match. She followed that with a career-high of eight blocks and finished off the tournament with five blocks and three digs to go with 11 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Overall Ellis finished with 20 total blocks and 1.54 b/s. 

Other impressive performances in the SCAC: 

Sophomore libero Ali Grona of Southwestern keyed the Pirates' defense with 26 digs derailing Concordia, aiding to the 3-1 victory. Junior outside hitter Ami Powers of Centenary collected 27 kills and 22 digs in a five-set victory over St. Thomas last week. She now has 120 kills on the season along with 131 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Georgia Mullins of Colorado College, was voted to the all-tournament team at the 2019 Pikes Peak Challenge. She averaged 1.36 blocks per set and hit .280 while averaging 3.09 kills per set. Sophomore libero Mari Prazak of Austin College averaged 5.28 digs-per-set in five matches while totaling 95 digs. She also added 10 assists and a pair of service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Peyton Sulak of Texas Lutheran recorded 13 blocks as the Bulldogs went 3-1 last week, including 3-0 at the Hendrix College Invitational.
